Bob McPherson
Edinburgh based abstract artist.

Following early retirement from social work, I developed a passion for art. I studied art in Glasgow and then in Edinburgh. My creative journey has always been shaped by an intuitive pull toward abstraction and expressionism. My practice is rooted in spontaneity and emotional honesty. I begin with loose sketches, marks, and gestures. From there, I layer mixed media – acrylic, ink, pastel, text collage and charcoal, until each piece unfolds gradually revealing itself through gesture mark and emotion.
I’ve become especially drawn to painting head figures. They are non gender specific, ageless, and classless, I have a sense of an other worldly presence in them that I don’t find easy to define, a desire to connect with something raw and unfiltered – laughter, tenderness, spirit.
I always aim to be authentic, I let my intuition guide me, and allow my work to speak its own language, open, inclusive and quietly radical.
